Ep. 60: Grave Mistake: THE MISSION Shoulda Been Huge - Pt.1!!!

Episode Summary

Our good friend and heavy metal vocalist from the middle east: Tareq joins us this week for our sixth installment of an ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. In this episode, we feature the goth supergroup: THE MISSION (or THE MISSION UK as they were known in the States)! Although they were huge in the UK, they never made as much of an impact in the US even when bands like The Cure, The Cult, Psychedelic Furs, and Sisters Of Mercy were breaking big into the American market. Kevin discovered them on a late-night MTV binger back in 1990.

Episode Notes

This episode is obviously rooted firmly in our Should Have Been category. The Mission are an off-shoot of Sisters Of Mercy that took goth rock and combined it with classic rock and punk. Ten full-length albums, (27) singles, (9) live albums, and (10) compilations & EPs and they are still going strong! We couldn’t get through their entire discography in this episode, so expect volume 2 soon!

Songs this week include:

  1. “Wasteland” from Gods Own Medicine (1986)
  2. “Over The Hills And Far Away” from The First Chapter (1987)
  3. “Hymn (For America)” from Children (1988)
  4. “Into The Blue” from Carved In Sand (1990)
  5. “The Grip Of Disease” from Grains Of Sand (1990)
  6. “Even You May Shine” from Masque (1992)
  7. “Afterglow” from Sum & Substance (1994)
