Ep. 77: Grave Mistake: MARILLION Shoulda Been Huge!!! 10-19

Episode Summary

This week we give you the 11th installment of an ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. This is the 3rd installment of a series featuring the neo-prog innovators: MARILLION! Since this band has such a massive catalog and breadth of releases, we’ve been focusing on their discography one decade at a time. If you are from the US and have heard of them, more than likely you are familiar with their 80s output that we covered in Ep. 75. That’s not what you are going to get here. This is an entirely different version of the band that has continued to push the boundaries of their sonic output!

Episode Notes

This episode is obviously rooted firmly in our Should Have Been category. Marillion is a band that has amassed an amazing catalog of successful yet cult band-ish albums that are nerdy cool, with deep lyrics, but with a keen sense of humor. Kevin refers to them as the English Rush, but this is an amazing group all on their own. We think they SHOULDA BEEN HUGE!!! We hope you’ve been enjoying this journey with us as we’ve covered this band’s material from the 80s, 90s, and now the 20-teens!

Songs this week include:

  1. “Gaza” from Sounds That Can’t Be Made (2012)
  2. “The New Kings IV: Why Nothing Is Ever True” from F.E.A.R. - Fuck Everyone And Run (2016)
  3. “Incommunicado” from Singles Night (2018)
  4. “Seasons End” from With Friends From The Orchestra (2019)
